Chetola Trip

Yesterday, our little group from COM 3317 took a fun trip out to the Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. We got a complete tour of the resort area and restaurant as well as an inside look at how Bryan Moore manages social media for the resort.

There was a large focus on Facebook and utilizing it for increasing traffic to the resort and the resort website, and how the resort social media found success by creating a personal and heartfelt story for viewers to connect them emotionally to the resort and make them want to come and visit. I really enjoyed listening to Bryan talk about how sometimes thinking outside the box and utilizing some of the simplest things can prove to be the most effective when using social media as a tool for marketing and creating an image for a company.

I am also particularly interested to see, after following the resort's Facebook page, if they do eventually decide to utilize an Instagram account. I personally love Instagram, although I find it a lot of work to maintain a personal account, and could see people enjoying photos of the resort and of Blowing Rock.

Overall, it was interesting to learn about some of the history of Chetola, admire the beauty of it during the day, and have a fun day for the end of Summer 2 classes.
